Developing a Bodice Sloper: Final Days & Verdict

It's over.

After eight weeks (seven if you count the one I missed), I am not sure that I am any closer to a good fitting bodice sloper than I was in the beginning. Admittedly, part of the reason for this is my severe drop in motivation right around the fifth week. I began to have doubts about the fit, pattern, and overall adjustments made and hence failed to put forth any more effort.

I learned a lot about flat-pattern measuring and alternative ways to make pattern adjustments. This information is certainly valuable and has been quite useful already. The instructor was really nice and patient. With all that's going on around me, I had to make a choice about what battles to fight. This was not one of them. I humbly waived my white muslin flag in surrender.

So the hunt for a bodice sloper is still on. I would like to try Kenneth King's Moulage method next. Having taken a class from him in the past and reading successes from those who have tried his method, I am excited about it. I will likely return to developing a bodice sloper sometime during Summer. As of now, I plan to work on the mini wardrobe contest on PR and sewing some garments for major fun coming up this Spring.

I have woven shirts and jackets in queue for sewing. I have resolved to be one with the fit and just make it work. The garments may not fit perfectly, but I won't be naked. =)

I'll post my tentative wardrobe plan soon.

What the Hell?

I know I'm supposed to be talking about the last two days of developing my bodice sloper, but as the process has come to a grinding halt (details to follow later), I will write about something else.

The Grammy Awards are tonight. I haven't watched any award show since...what...eighth grade? I am simply not interested. In surfing the web, I came across a site that has pictures of what some of the attendants are wearing. Okay, I get it. You desire to be "out there" with your look. Lady Gaga (who the hell is that?) arrives in an egg. News Flash: It's been done already. Michael Jackson slept in an oxygen chamber or incubator or something. Get a new gig, gaga.

What is this??!

Um. No.

I don't know who you are, but honey, you need a bodice sloper in the worst way. A little spanx, boning, or a new dress might help.

Developing a Bodice Sloper: Days 3 & 4

I'm a bit behind in updating as I went out of town last weekend and haven't had the time (or energy) to write about the last two days of class. Honestly, there really isn't much to report. We worked on adjusting the skirt pattern to fit match the circumference of the bodice. I think I was supposed to cut and attach the bodice to the skirt in preparation for today's class. Yeah, that didn't happen. I suppose I'll do that today in class. The instructor said that the bodice can't really be fitted without the skirt. Hmm...oookay. On to day 5...
