2025 Make Nine Update

Nearly halfway through the year and I'm here to share an update on my 2025 Make Nine plan.

For the past few years, I selected specific patterns to make for the grid. This time, I opted to focus on garment types so that I can have more options without feeling like I have to scrap the whole plan. So far, this is working out really well and I still feel excited about the original intention.

 

I've made four of the nine garments and have two in queue. I definitely want to make a handbag and need to decide between Lavender & Twine's Hinterland or Swoon Patterns' Lola (not affiliate links).

 

Floral Trench Coat:  Burda 9-2006-104

 

I wrote several posts semi-detailing the construction process. Despite having many challenges, I just love how everything turned out. This was something I wanted to make for a while and am glad I didn't let frustration deter me from finishing.

 

Pants:  Jalie 2909

 

I made this pattern many years ago and abandoned the pair of pants due to questionable fit. I recently bought some Bengaline and wanted a simple pattern since I was unsure if I would like the fabric. Conclusion? I love the fabric and bought more. Hah! I need to work on the pattern, though, because the fit still isn't quite right. Pardon the wrinkles; I washed the pants but haven't ironed them.

 

Woven dress:  Burda 9-2006-107

 

Still on the hunt for a woven shirt dress to replace Simplicity 8014, I tried this pattern from Burda 2006. I measured the pattern pieces and compared it to my TNT shirt pattern; it should fit. Hopefully. =)

I wanted short sleeves, but the sleeves I took from a different Burda magazine pattern didn't fit. I thought they were interchangeable. Welp, long sleeves in summer it is! 

 

I just need to add buttonholes, buttons, and snaps on the cuffs and I'll be done.

Lounge wear:  Burda 5853

 

This was an interesting set to make. The instructions were good and mostly clear, though I am not sure I sewed the waistband area correctly on the pants. The elastic doesn't go around the entire waistband; it stops on either side of a front panel yoke (?) or something. It's weird because that piece isn't supported and droops.

 

 

Also, the top has a high-low hem with side slits. I like the side details, but can do without the high-low hem because sometimes my stomach is exposed and I am always cold.

 

 

Wonky waistband and hem not withstanding, this set is SUPER comfortable. 

 

The fabric is some random knit I purchased a few years ago and perfect for the pattern. It has the right amount of drape and fluidity to make this great for lounging.

 

That neckline is tragic, I know. I somehow messed up sewing the binding. It's okay, I'll get it right next time.

 

When I make this again, I'll extend the front pattern piece to match the back and use a different waistband for the pants.

 

That's it for the update for now. I am working on some non-Make Nine garments. I'll start the muslin for the woven top and trace the pattern for the wild card next.
